If you’ve spent any time in COEX, you know the problem: it’s one of the biggest underground malls in Asia, and yet finding a proper cafe in COEX — somewhere big enough to actually sit down and breathe — is weirdly hard. Most spots are small and packed. So when I wandered into Soul Market Bakery after a movie, its sheer size was a relief. High ceilings, rows of tables, and a dessert counter that goes on for days.
It’s become my go-to when I need a break mid-COEX, and if you’re exploring the mall — the aquarium, the (restaurants), Starfield Library — it’s a genuinely useful place to know about.
Why this cafe stands out in COEX
COEX doesn’t have many large cafes, and that’s exactly what makes Soul Market Bakery worth seeking out. The space is huge — easily one of the biggest cafes in the mall — with high ceilings that keep it from feeling cramped, and bright lighting that makes the whole room feel open and airy. Even when COEX is heaving on a weekend, you can usually find a table here.
There’s a self-service station with both reusable and disposable cutlery, tissues, and wet wipes — small thing, but handy when you’ve loaded up a tray of pastries.
The bakery counter: this is the main event
The range here is genuinely impressive. On any given day the counter might hold four or five kinds of levain cookies, German Stollen, croissants, brownies, financiers, and egg tarts.
The Korean salt bread (sogeum-ppang — a lightly salted, buttery bread roll that’s a national obsession) comes in two versions: truffle and milk cream.
Over in the chilled case you’ll find the cakes and cold desserts — soufflé cheesecake, mousse tarts, tiramisu, and seasonal mini cakes.
One thing to know: the lineup rotates and popular items sell out, especially later in the evening. When I went in the evening, a fair few things were already gone — still plenty left, but if there’s a specific pastry you’re set on, come earlier in the day. The exact selection changes with the season, so treat any specific item as “might be there” rather than guaranteed — check their Naver Map page for the current lineup if you’re after something particular.
Drinks: lots of options, and free customization
The drink menu is just as wide. There are around a dozen coffee drinks, plus milk teas, ades, hot chocolate, and a good range of teas.
The nice part for coffee people: you can choose your bean and swap the milk — both free. There are three house beans with different flavor profiles (from bright and acidic to deep and chocolatey), and you can switch to oat, soy, or almond milk at no extra charge, which isn’t a given at Korean cafes.

In summer, they run a seasonal menu with Korean shaved-ice bingsu — think injeolmi (toasted-rice-cake) red-bean bingsu and fresh mango bingsu — alongside fresh watermelon juice and other warm-weather drinks. Prices and seasonal items change through the year, so the menu you see may differ from what’s below.

- Caffe Latte — around ₩6,100
- Signature Oat Chamomile Latte — around ₩8,000
- Chamomile / Earl Grey / Hibiscus tea — around ₩6,000

I went with a caffe latte — swapping in oat milk made it cleaner and let the bean’s nuttiness come through — and a chamomile tea for a late-evening visit. Both hit the spot. If you like your desserts on the sweeter side, the tiramisu (when it’s in) is rich and very sweet — lovely, but not for anyone who finds sweet-and-creamy too much.

Soul Market Bakery is on the B1 level of COEX Mall, directly across from Youngpoong Books (영풍문고) — being a big cafe, it’s easy to spot from a distance.

- Nearest station: Bongeunsa Station (Line 9), Exit 7 — about 9 minutes’ walk. COEX is a maze underground, so the easiest approach is to follow signs to Youngpoong Books, or use one of the mall’s touchscreen directory kiosks to route yourself there.

Verdict
Soul Market Bakery isn’t a hidden gem exactly — it’s big and easy to find — but that’s the point. In a mall where seating is a constant battle, having a spacious cafe in COEX with a serious bakery counter and free drink customization is exactly what you want after a couple of hours on your feet. Pair it with the aquarium, a movie, or a browse through Starfield Library, and it slots neatly into a COEX afternoon.
