Looking for real Korean food at Lotte World Mall among all the cafes and international chains? On the 5th-floor restaurant level — right by Lotte Cinema — Suhadong serves one thing beautifully: gomtang, a clean, comforting beef-bone soup with real pedigree.

What is gomtang?
Gomtang is a Korean soup made by simmering beef and bones for hours into a clear, clean broth — hearty and deeply savory, but light rather than heavy. It looks plain, but a spoonful in and you get why it’s a Korean comfort-food staple.
One key thing for first-timers: gomtang is served unseasoned. That’s on purpose — you season it yourself at the table with salt, pepper, and (importantly) the chopped green onion. Add the green onion generously; it transforms the bowl. If it tastes bland at first, it just needs salt.

A soup with a lineage
Suhadong isn’t a random mall restaurant. It traces back to Hadongkwan, a famous multi-generation Seoul gomtang institution, and carries on that tradition here — so you’re getting a storied recipe in a convenient mall setting. For a dish this traditional, that heritage is a real mark of quality.

The menu: which gomtang to order
Here’s where a little guidance helps, because the gomtang comes in four versions that differ by meat and naepo (offal/innards):
- Regular gomtang (19,000 KRW) — beef and naepo (offal). The full, traditional experience.
- Meat-only, extra (20,000 KRW) — lots of beef, no offal.
- Offal-only (19,000 KRW) — heavy on the naepo.
- Plain gomtang (17,000 KRW) — meat only, the simplest bowl.
My advice: if you don’t mind offal, get the regular gomtang — it’s the most flavorful and the way locals eat it. If offal isn’t your thing, go for the meat-only or plain gomtang and you’ll still get that clean, rich broth.
There’s also suyuk (boiled beef slices, 45,000 KRW for 1–2 servings) if you want a shareable plate alongside.
How it’s served
Gomtang arrives fast — often within a couple of minutes — in a traditional brass bowl that keeps it hot longer. The broth is clean and savory, the beef tender, and it comes with excellent kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) that cut through beautifully.

How to eat it like a local: add the green onion generously, season with a little salt, and alternate bites of rice, soup, and kimchi. The radish kkakdugi with clean broth is a classic combination.

Verdict
For clean, traditional Korean food at Lotte World Mall, Suhadong is a lovely choice: a bowl of famous-lineage gomtang, a hot brass bowl, sharp kimchi, and the quiet satisfaction of a dish Koreans have loved for generations. Pick your version by how you feel about offal, season it, add the green onion, and eat like you know what you’re doing.
